Need Some Tramadol Advice

Posted by blueberry1 on January 12, 2007, at 20:05:04

So I've been staring at a bottle of Tramadol for a month. I've heard so many stories of its ability to lift one from the depths of depression in hours. I have it for emergency use but haven't tried it. I would consider taking it longterm despite its known risks. That is, if in a short trial it felt promising.

Anyway, I'm too afraid to try it. I am afraid that after it wears off I will suffer a rebound depression worse than where I started? Or some kind of hangover? I fear that once I take that first dose, that's it, I'm on it for a long time.

I want to try just one 50mg dose during a chosen time when I am prepared to handle any unexpected sedation or restlessness or whatever.

Is there a comedown after one dose? Or do you just gently slide back to your baseline? Or do you crash hard? What can I expect?

All advice welcome and greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I imagine results will vary, but for me, 50-100mgs really lifts my spirits up for a bit. Its kind of relaxing, but not in a benzo way exactly, nor quite in a Vicodin way, its just...tranquil. Also I started feeling more active, kind of like you'd get w/ an antidepressant.

But what about when it wears off? Then what? Wicked crash? Soft letdown? Big deal? No big deal? I'm not so worried about taking the drug as I am what happens after it wears off.

You take that risk pretty much with any antidepressant when if you think about it. At least you'll have had a few hours of relief if it does work and I find that alone can give me a sense of refreshment that lasts for some time. I didn't have rebound depression after one dose of tramadol. The comedown seemed gradual to me. That does make it tempting to take another dose of course but if you're prepared in advance for that happening it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I've found it easier to cope with the comedown if I go to bed and sleep it off.

The first time I tried it I was in withdrawal from clonazepam and tramadol made all my anxiety and depression fade away. I was functional again within an hour of taking it. Tramadol felt a bit like I what I imagine Ecstacy might feel like but milder and warmer. Everything in the world feels right and I'm completely at peace. It's a wonderful feeling but I was able to walk away from an 800mg a day habit without too much trouble.

I would take it at least once if I were you.
