Adderall XR users

Posted by Sonny Liston on November 13, 2006, at 19:02:02

I have been given a script for Adderall XR. I'm scared sh*tle** to take it. Does anyone like it for Depression ADHD? Do you crash and burn each afternoon? I need some expertise....

never had crash and burn on Adderall. I did on Dexedrine but not Adderall. You don't *have* to take it. Adderall is probably the best of the bunch. Depending on whether you have a weak stomach or not, you could have an upset stomach or some reduced appetite for a few days. What dose are you starting at? I would assume 10 or 20mg? Watch out for your mood, whether you get short tempered or not. Don't take it too late in the day. As long as you take it by 10 insomnia shouldn't be a problem. After that, just sit back, chill and observe. You will know if it's helping you or not. If it is, you'll be happy that you have it. If it doesn't then you have the option to try something else or you can at least know that you tried something.
Good luck,

Lisa

Thanks Lisa. I appreciate your response/experiences:) Sometimes I need to be reminded I'm in contol. I'm starting at 10 mgs. I wasn't short tempered on Wellbutrin nor do I have a weak stomach so maybe it will work out.

Have a good night,

John

I take XR for depression. It helps considerably but I do get some ups and downs from it. Personally I take 10mg in morning and then usually another 5mg early afternoon. for some reason about 1/2 an hour after I take the first dose I actually crash really hard but then am in good shape about half an hour after that. Once in a while I do get a crash in the evening too. I am extremely sensative to meds though and most people don't have these issues. I posted this just in case you experience something similar.

I can't tell you exactly how you'll respond, but 10mg of XR should be pretty smooth and be able to tell you if you're going to get anything out of it.

I'm throwing this out there for discussion.

Based on the expertise and experience of other "Babblers" is long term use of stimulants more damaging to the body/brain when compared to AD's benzo's, and AP's? Please understand I'm on Adderall XR and Zoloft so I have not formulated an opinion either way.

There are a number of factors involved so it's difficult to determine the long-term effects of these drugs.

Neuroleptics/antipsychotics definitely have been proven to cause significant and irreversible damage. Even the new ones carry some risk.

As far as stimulants are concerned, I don't think there's much evidence to suggest that long-term, doctor-supervised use at reasonable dosages leads to any serious problems. This is not stimulant abuse and it's not methamphetamine.
