wellbutrin and periods

Posted by eugenia on September 25, 2006, at 17:07:24

Help:
I think wellbutrin has put me in premature menapause. Has anyone else had their periods messed up from this medication. I am so upset, particularly as I don't think it's even affected my depression. Just made me infertile.

First of all, it probably hasn't made you infertile. That's certainly something to get checked out, with your doctor, but if the drug has caused problems, they're likely to end when you discontinue the drug.

My advice is to get in to your gynecologist's office tout suite. Get checked out. If Wellbutrin is causing trouble, get it fixed sooner rather than later.

Especially if it isn't helping with your depression. There are too many other meds that can help, there's no reason to stick with something which isn't helping.

Good luck.

OMG YES! When I first took Wellbutrin I had a constant period. I felt like taking out stock in tampax corp. What I read was that when they did their initial testing of the med almost all the subjects were male. Suddenly it was released to the public and voila! woman started having their periods messed up. So it could most definitely be the Wellbutrin but you should get it checked out anyway just to be sure.

I'm not sure about periods, but my girlfriend has been waiting for her periods to stop. She is 54 and hasn't started menapause, yet. You've got me thinking that, perhaps, the Wellbutrin may be playing a part in that. She has been taking it at least 5 years if not longer. BTW, her periods are erratic, also. She loves the drug, though.
