prozac

Posted by saturn on September 9, 2006, at 19:35:14

About a decade ago I took 30 mg Prozac for about a year. It caused anorgasmia and some insomnia but was otherwise tolerable.

A few years later I tried Zoloft. I only tried 2 doses (50 mg and 25 mg) and both gave me horrible chest pain (9 out of 10, no exaggeration), tachycardia and high blood pressure. I've since had the same experience with the Ritalin, Adderall and Dexedrine. I've had my heart checked and it's aok--without meds.

I'm considering retrying Prozac or trying Provigil. I am very apprehensive about retrying the Prozac since I had such an awful chest pain with Zoloft. Any thoughts?

How about trying a really low dose of Prozac as a trial-like 2.5 or 5 mg? Usually SSRI's that "poop out" don't work again in the future, though-but it seems like it might be worth a try. Good luck! :>}

I'm not sure that after a decade of non-use of an SSRI that it is incapable of being used again. That would seem like an awfully long period of time for a psychotropic to have residuals, although I do have a strange spasmodic residual from tranxene withdrawal, so anything is possible I suppose. I saw some anectodal about someone being helped with the "poop out" with Wellbutrin, but every one of these cases of course is just a case report. Everyone's condition is just slightly different so you can't evaluate it from just one incident.

I wonder what this actual poop out really is. I maintain that you get past the start up effects and felt so horrible that then you feel good on the med and really it's how you started out. Your base line. Love Phillipa

The Prozac never actually pooped-out, I discontinued it due to sexual side effects which in hindsight were probably manageable. My concern is the severe chest pain I had with Zoloft and whether I'd have a similar experience with restarting Prozac since they're both ssri's.

I can't understand my extreme cardiovascular sensitivity to Zoloft (and stimulants) when I was once able to handle Prozac. I wonder if perhaps some physiologic changes may have occured in me to make me so sensitive. I had such awful chest pain on Zoloft that I don't want to risk this with going back to Prozac.
