I started tegretol almost two weeks ago and my throat is pretty sore. It's been this way almost since I started it. Could this be a result of lowered white blood count from the tegretol or am I just overeggaterating the effects in my head and I should suck it up? My doctor doesn't plan to take tests to check up unless I get "sick" but I don't know if this counts. I haven't had fever or anything... thoughts?

Is the lowered white blood count a common side effect. Did you look in the back to see if there are white spots or your breath smells bad that is a sign of strep. Love Phillipa

I don't think it's strep. My breath is fine and my mom says theres no white spots.
I talked to my pharmacist and she printed out something about aplastic anemia... great!! And told me to call pdoc tomorrow. It's weird because my face also feels swollen and itchy. Especially around my lips. Gotta love side effects.

Sounds more like an allergic reaction. Maybe call the pdoc tonight? Love Phillipa

Don't you think that it's weird that I would be having an allergic reaction to it after two weeks though? Hrmmph

No you can develop an allergie say to penicilline after you've taken it many times or not be allergic to bee stings and then be allergic. Don't ask why as I don't know. Love Phillipa
