How much Amisulpride is a fair trial?

Posted by bigcat on August 28, 2006, at 15:44:05

Been wanting to try Amisulpride, but it looks pretty expensive. Best prices I've found are 20 tablets of 50mgs for $52, or 20 tablets of 100mgs for $65. I have a pill cutter. How long and at what dose do I need to give it a fair trial. Would 20 tablets of 100mgs be enough for an adequate trial? And should I try it alone or in combination with another med? I'd appreciate any knowledge/experience.

I'd say the length of a 'fair trial' seems to depend on the individual. I respond quickly to meds, so I usually have a good idea of whether it's working within a week. With amisulpride I knew it was having an effect by day 4, but as of day 6 or so (today), still haven't worked out exactly what that effect is.

Some on this board have previously said that 2 weeks is an adequate trial of amisulpride. Sounds sensible to me, but I know that sometimes these things take 4-8 weeks, or longer. I usually just feel it out along the way--if it's clearly a bad med, I stop it. If I'm not sure, I give it a while longer.

But 20 tablets of 100 would be 40 doses of 50mg. Sounds like plenty to me. Hope it works out.

I usually notice the effects of amisulpride on the first or second day of taking it. Lower dosages might be better than higher ones. Personally, I did better on 100 mg than 50 mg, possibly because this dosage might have some dopamine blockade. Other people report better results on 12.5, 25 or 50 mgs.

I wanted to wait and here the opinions of others before I posted.
I believe Amisulpride is generally affective within a week if its going to work.

Some people can take up to four before they see an affect, elivated Prolactin can cause problems.

I knew within a week that it was helping to resolve an episode of agitated bipolar depression that hit me after stopping lithium.
