been on emsam [6mg] the 20 patch... smallest one. for just shy of 4 weeks.
(after years of almost every +/- SSRI --> all pooped out )i can feel it /- doing something -/ BUT so far it has done
nothing for alleviating this mud thick depression. doc wants me to go two more weeks before we evaluate (maybe raise).... PROBLEM is i am getting extremely frustrated cause it is difficult to get thru an hour or day let alone another 2 weeks.....these psych meds are aggravating.... they will take weeks to work (if at all).... thats like someone tellin ya, bang this bag of dope and you will get high in about 14 - 28 days..... wtf ?
anyway.... has anyone had to wait for more than a month (or so) for emsam (or maoi in general) to work ? cause i am convinced that i need a higher dose....

There were some studies mentioned that the 6 mg patch doesnt work that well. You may need to go up to see any results.

I think you're probably right, and I don't think it would be imprudent at this point in time to go up to the 9 mg patch. The dietary restrictions are relatively minor IMO. I take a regular MAOI (Marplan) and do not find them to even be much of an inconvenience; however, I must admit to not caring much for aged cheeses to begin with.Todd

i hear ya. i think 9 is the next step.....however, i am italian-american... cutting out aged cheese removes a HUGE chunk of my diet....
Pecorino Provolone or Sanity... that is the question.
(i am leaning toward sanity)thanks for your thoughts & info ...

So none of you think the 6mg patch works? I'm planning on going on it and my pdoc said I probably wouldn't need the whole patch. Love Phillipa ps so is it worth going off the luvox? My other choice was to raise it.

As with everything, YMMV. Some people seem to get relief from the 6 mg patch (or even less) while others need a higher dose. Six weeks is considered a reasonable amount of time to see if a particular dosage is effective before moving up to a higher dose.
I'm at the 6 week mark now on the 6 mg. There seems to be some subtle improvement but my pdoc agreed to let me try the 9 mg patch & see if it results in more dramatic changes.
This is the end of the thread.
