beta blocker w/ provigil?

Posted by saturn on June 12, 2006, at 20:01:21

Is it safe to use a beta blocker to counter peripheral side effects (heart rate, blood pressure) due to provigil?

My understanding is that beta blockade without concurrent alpha blockade increases pressor effects of (traditional) sympathomimetics, leading to potentially severe high blood pressure.

I would like to know if the same applies to provigil.

Thanks for any info. Peace. Saturn.

Hi Saturn

I think it would probably be fine. I sense than you are worrying a lot about it :(

Hi Ed,

Yeah, I am worrying about it a lot. The last time I tried a stimulant--Dex in December--I wound up in the emergency room. I've had awful experiences with all the stimulants.

I realize Provigil isn't a conventional stimulant per se, but I never want to experience my heart going out of control like that again. I'm very sensitive in this regard. Thanks for your input :)

Saturn
