Posted by queenie on April 13, 2006, at 21:03:22

hi there. been on effexor xr for 1 1/2 weeks. waiting to feel some effect, anyone know about how long it takes on average? feeling anxious/snappy like i'm not on anything. just let one of my boys pee on the toilet seat again and i may go over the edge...it's stupid stuff like that that is getting to me. i am hoping that maybe this drug just takes a little longer to get into your system????????? Thanks!!

Sometimes it can take up to 4 weeks or longer to work but that's all I'm going to say about that nasty drug

One usually doesn't see any kind of improvement at 1 1/2 weeks. Some early signs of a positive response are often evident in the third week, though. As the previous poster has stated, it can take longer.

How much Effexor are you taking right now?

I am not taking it at the moment. I have been on it at least three times with some positive results. I didn't stay with it because the degree of improvement was inadequate. I thought it was a pretty clean drug. I took 300mg.

Effexor seems to be more effective than the SSRI drugs. This has been documented in medical literature. It gets more people well. It also produces a better quality response. These are just statistical averages. Each person has a unique biochemistry that determines responsivity to specific drugs and side effects.

Many people do suffer an intense withdrawal syndrome upon discontinuation if they don't taper the dosage gradually. It is inadvisable to go "cold turkey" as so many do.

This website attracts people who are treatment-resistant or experience significant side effects. I don't think it is representative of the general population.
