Hello to everyone. I have a question here. I am currently taking Wellbutrin over the coarse of the last two weeks. I have been taking (1) 75MG pill a day. Suddenly about two days ago I started to have this strange Depersonalization kind of feeling. I'm thinking back to the summer of 2005 when I tried a bunch of Antipychotics such as Geodon, Risperdal, Seroquel, etc and everytime I took one of the pills I had the most terrible side effects to the point that I felt numbed mentally, confused, and after taking Geodon for a five day period I actually started to Hallucinate and hear voices. Upon stopping the med, the side effects went away. My question is: Can Wellbutrin be causing similar side effects to me? All the meds I named all have effects on Dopamine levels. I've looked everywhere on thet net and can't find any info comparing Geodon and Wellbutrin. Geodon is A Dopamine D2 Blocker and Wellbutrin is A Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor. The translation seems to be that they are the same thing for the most part. Can somebody please shed some light on this for me. I think I'm going to stop using the Wellbutrin immediately and go back on Effexor XR. This feeling of Depersonalization is freekin me out. Any responses will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tommy

I've been on Wellbutrin, but did not experience anything like what you describe. However, medical literature does indicate incidence of psychotic symptoms and activation of mania (in BPs) when taking Wellbutrin. I know that when buproprion started being marketed as Zyban to smokers looking to quit, doctors started reporting some of the symptoms you've described.

I don't know what I had psychosis on Wellbutrin but I did have a horrific time on it.
It made me feel SOOOO weird/freaky and I couldn't eat or sleep for four entire days.I felt like I was on speed.
I hated it. So they put me on LExapro and that did cause me to hallucinate and freak out even worse.
I personally think that just about any of these meds can cause just about anything in different people; it works wonders in some while it nearly caused me to kill myself.
You may need to ask for a benzo. I had to have Xanax when on Wellbutrin and coming off of Lexapro.

I went psychotic on Wellbutrin twice. So I guess it has the potential for it. :-(

wellbutrin is related to Tenuate, a diet pill developed in the 60s/70s...basically, its a mild stimulant with AD properties so...you'll see psychosis, kind of like amphetamine psychosis, in certain sensitive individuals even at therapeutic dosages.
