Just started Neurontin for chronic nerve, back pain. Seems to help pain, but mood is greaty improved!Feel normal without feeling high. Just a normal balanced mood. I used to want to drink, take vicoden or take snri meds like effexor, just so I could take away the flatness of ssri meds. Could these be the way to go? It is very strange to feel very content and I feel like I have all my emotions intact like I could cry if I needed to. What's the deal with these? Maybe Larry Hoover knows.

There are a number of researchers who think the effects of antidepressant medications are ultimatedly mediated through glutamate and gaba neurotransmission.
Anticonvulsants may be able to more directly modify these neuromodulators than monoamine based drugs.
I have had at times, a more rapid onset of antidepressant effect with anticonvulsants as compared to conventional antidepressants.
Limbic kindling may be responsable for certain mood disorders, and an anticonvulsant may be more capable of adressing this phenomina than a monoamine based antidepressant.
Researchers sometimes divide animal models of depression into certain subsets. There is a gabergic animal model of depression whereby incrasing gaba neurotransmission is sufficiant reverse learned helplessness.

I totaly dont wanna burst your bubble, but many people note a marked mood improvment upon first taking Nuerotion, its kinda like on the edge of being drunk,u get the euphoria but not the totaly distortion.
Unfortunatly for most they will become adjusted to the med and usualyhardly notice it.Now i could be wrong, and i truly hope i am.
All i can suggest from reading on it and being a current user is to A dont get over excitied and attempt to increase the dose, this seems to create tolerance quicker, also www.crazymeds.com notes this med actualy performs better at a lower dose range.
Second caffiene seems to have a nice synergy with it,i remeber hearing a craze of a huge huge cup of coffee with it to provide a semi stimulant/sedative effect.
I myself just res started it today,ko-wink-e-dink huh,and i had a great day,i can not BELIEVE what i accomplished this morning,a HUGE stack of bills papers etc that was rising is now gone,i was on the phone beig prodcutive like an animal,EXTREMLY social, articulate.Words seemed to flow out of my mouth anxiety totaly diminshed.
My specific combo was 30 mg parnate/100 mg caffiene/.5 mg klonopin and a 800 mg Nurontion tab.I know for sure the klonopin/nuerontion had a major part in todays social energy,im sitting here still amazed and how easly i accomplished so many tasks today,i mean it was incredable my pile is no longer a pile but a single paper or two.
I am however cursed with meds that work brilliantly for a day or two and fail,so i am on the merry go round again, regardless ill take a day off any time.
But back to you,a few last things to note are the increase in gaba can accumalte, and Nuerotion has been none to worsen depression, the good news is the drug plays very nice with almost everything,so id consider looking into the addition of a stimulant such as simple caffiene, modfanil, deprenyl or the like,WHEN and IF you feel you mood start to drop, also shh dont sa anything but klonopin and Nuerotion LOVE each other, they work wonderfully in conjunction.Good luck!

The last thing I need is another benzo in me. Those are depressing! I already went thru the initial euphoric stage, so commen in the begining of starting these drugs. At this point I have leveled off to a nice even place I have never been, very different from my normal response. I think I have been getting to low on ssri meds without a mood stabilizer to keep me even. I don't think I realized just how low I got. By the way, been taking some vicoden during this time and I am sure it contributes to the mood swings!
