dear group,
i have a problem with taking my medicine Ritalin.
only a sort from abuse .
like not swolling it (oral)
But I like it to take it trough my nose,just how you take cocaine, snorking is maybe the word for it, in English.
I am from the Netherlands,so plese give me not too difficult answers,,my english is good for understanding eachother.My guestion is;
what is wrong with taking it trough your nose instead of taking it oraal.
I am looking forward for an answer,
I am afraid to tell it to my shrink.

When you snort Ritalin, it acts more like cocaine. Ritalin is taken orally because it lasts longer that way, and because snorting stuff can cause damage to your nose over the long term.
BUT...personally, I think that as long as you stay within your recommended doses (don't run out early, for instance), its not a big deal.
I would **NOT** tell your shrink about this.

It is a big deal.
When you snort ritalin it acts more like cocaine. Not only in how it feels but how it can dammage your brain.
Snorting it causes a much sharper release of certain brain chemicals, putting certain parts of the brain at risk.
It will not work as well for its intended purpose if you take it this way.Linkadge

Link is right - a very big deal! I have a badly damaged left lacrimal (tear)duct and ethmoid sinus cavity due to getting hooked on doing Ritalin nasally.
Also, when you do go back to oral Ritalin it will take either a "cold turkey" stop first; or a switch and then a return to Ritalin.
CAUTION is the by-word here.......

I agree, don't confess to your shrink. He/She may quickly drop you as a patient for misuse and abuse of a controlled medication.
Snorting Ritalin is a problem. It's not meant to be snorted up your nose...NOT even at prescribed (or recommended) dosages. Abusing Ritalin (and other psychostimulants) can cause stroke, toxic psychosis and severe insomnia, among others.
So take it by mouth, NOT your nose. :-)
