What is Reboxetine?

Posted by Kimbersaur on November 24, 2005, at 18:06:41

I read somewhere that it is an SNRI and not approved in the U.S. How does it differ from Effexor? Why isn't it approved in the States?

Hi Kimbersaur, Reboxetine is an antidepressant drug that blocks the reuptake of norepinephrine.

Reboxetine is used in the treatment of clinical depression, panic disorder and ADD/ADHD. Its mesilate (i.e. methanesulfonate) salt is sold under tradenames including Edronax®, Norebox®, Prolift®, Solvex® or Vestra®. Chemically it is (±)-(2R*)-2-[(αR*)-α-(o-ethoxyphenoxy)benzyl] morpholine.

A quick Google search will bring up a tonne of websites that should give you all the info you'll need. :)

Hiya!

As said above its an potent SNRI. I have been on it for about three months this summer. It was fantastic for panic, moderate as an AD. But it made my periods stop and gave me bad acne, (it must have affected my hormones) so I quit. Although I found it hard to gain weight on it!!

Its available in Europe. I think its not available in the USA is because one of the big pharm companies is bringing out a similar drug (or have brought out), and they don't want it on the market. Or something like that. Pharm politics anyway.

Are you thinking of trying some?

Reboxetine differs from Effexor in that only ever affects one NT

whereas Effexor has the potential to affect 3 NT (AND NO, it does NOT act like an MAOI)

it isnt approved in the states cause apperently it sux....i tried it....made memore depressed, but too much NE makes me that way....but i have heard some great reports from some users
