Hi,
Has anyone experienced a worsening of tardive dyskinesia after years of being off neuroleptics? Can this happen?
I had a very mild case of TD and now after 10 years it is getting worse.Thanks.

Hi Shelley, sorry this is off topic.

How much time have you been on APs? how many of them have you tried?
Thank you

Hi Tepiaca,
In the past I took between 1-8 mg of perphenazine, on and off, for three years.
Several years ago I tried 0.5 mg risperdal but stopped after a month.
That sums up my experience with APs.
Are you on neuroleptics?Shelley.

So basically it was the pherpenazine the responsible of your TD ?

Hi Tep,
Yes, it was the perphenazine which caused my TD.
How long did you take perphenazine, and at what dosage?
What does your doctor say about your muscle twitches?
Shelley.

>Like 1 year. about 2 or 3mg per day. It was a drug called ADEPSIQUE. its a combination of
Valium-Amitriptilyne and Perphenazine.

>He says is common. That is not a big deal.
I dont know if this matters but I have recently more twitches than before and in others muscles that I never had before
Shelley can you tell me your experience. what were the first signs of TD. Was it all very fast or you had some early symptomps. How are you now? what is the most difficult part of this.
I wish you could find something that helps you

Tep,
Where do you have the muscle twitches? What new symptoms developed recently?
My TD symptoms began with some strange feeling of pressure on my tongue, after which I decided not to take perphenazine anymore. But during that period something extremely stressful came up so I took 1 mg for a while in order to get through the nights. After the severe stress was over, I developed exteme weakness and difficulty breathing, along with many other symptoms. I went to the ER and was told I had symptoms of TD, which I haden't noticed till then. The doctors later concluded the problem was depression and panic attacks, but they worsened and I developed dystonia and more TD symptoms such as tongue rolling and teeth clenching. Also, when I speak, it looks as though my mouth isn't moving much.
TD wasn't my main concern then and when my other problems finally improved, some mild symptoms of the TD remained, such as teeth clenching. Only recently have the symptoms worsened some.If you were on 2-3 mg of perphenazine for a year, it is probably not very likely that you developed severe or irreversible TD. How long have you been off the drug?
Don't let my experience with perphenazine frighten you. Besides the fact that I took it for several years and at a larger dose, I suspect another physical problem is responsible for my severe symptoms and sensitivity to TD. Everyone is different, though I think you should discuss your concern with your doctor and perhaps see a neurologist to diagnose the twitches. If you must take APs for a while, the newer drugs are probably safer, so try not to worry.
Take care,
Shelley.

Haven't tried vitamin E yet, but it is a good idea. Have you tried it?> God bless you
Take care, and God bless you too.
