This is a study in the J Clinical Psychiatry 2004.

I thought that this was an interesting study on the use of Klonopin for anxiety. Klomopin was effective in long term treatment without tachyphylaxis (need to keep increasing the dose). Of course the dose is usually started low, and then increased to the ultimate therapeutic level. But once the ultimate maintenance dose is determined, one can usually stay on that dose for the long term.

Also tiredness and ataxia (clumsiness) were generally only short term side effects.

The most successful maintenance doses were in the range of 1 to 4 mg per day. These doses were significantly more effective than 0.5 mg.

For those with comorbid depression, the author suggested taking an antidepressant along with Klonopin.

Xanax had similar efficafasy (I wish I could spell), but was less tolerated because due to a shorter half-life, patients became anxious between doses.

Words and findings of my heart and mind in that study. Was great for me and should I ever need to return to routine use, I would do so with no hesitation.

Unfortunately when tring to switch from xanax when it worked to klonopin I felt suicidal for the very first time and pdoc immediately switched me back to xanax and I was fine. That was ten years ago. Before menopause. Fondly, Phillipa
