Psychopharmacology and DNA

Posted by tex1 on September 21, 2005, at 9:39:37

Hy all,
I'm on Depakote and Anafranil for about 3 years now. Am 31 and am planning to become father in the next few years. My question is : do antipressant and in general any med influence my DNA ? Is there a higher risk to have handicapped child ? Thanks in advance.

Regards

Giovanni

I have never heard of a risk related to the father. But if the mother is on antidepressants during pregnancy or breast feeding, there could be a small risk to the baby depending on which drug is taken.

I've heard about risks that come through the father. Through damaged DNA? It was in the news.

Hi Phillipa,
it's a bit new, but it was in the popular science press. I'm too ignorant to speak sensibly about it.
