i REALLY do not like the way lexapro (5 mg a day - taken 2 x - day 3) is making me feel. i feel out of control also sort of home bound - i dread picking up my daughter at school - i feel like it is obvious i am on drugs so i want to hide!!- AND i couldnt go on my usual walk this morning b.c i feel too messed up and yesterday on my walk i got dizzy and thought i was going to faint and throw up from the lex. i would rather have anxiety and be my normal self. i feel like i drank gallons of theraflu yet still have anxiety....had to take 1/2 a .25 of xan. my pupils are dilated - a direct response to the lex. i couldn't sleep last night - know that is a normal SE but dont think the rest is normal for SEs - or is it?? i just dont think this is right. i feel awful.

Maddy,
I would call your dr and let them know this is going on. You're on a very low dose of lex and I don't think you should be having that strong of s/e's unless it's just not cooperating with you. Espescially if the xanax is not bringing you relief.
I'm going to look up my old posts from when I started lex and see if I had any of those effects. I remember the increased anxiety but xanex helped it...(((hugs)))

Ok I googled my posts from before (old name mel_light) Anyway, wow I struggled at the beginning of lex too but I hung in there and it was very successful for me. However it looks like it took about a month and it was REALLY bad during my time of the month. If you read some of my old posts you'll see I had: lightheadedness, foggy minded, panic BAD, chest tightness, difficultly swallowing (so I thought) feeling like I was gasping for air, etc...
It looks as if they slowly decreased and got better. But I used the hell out of adivan and xanex to get through it...
Hope this helps...You're not alone.

>Thanks Mel!!!
i really think maybe i should just jump off the ssri wagon while the gettin's good! before it gets too crazy - well it already IS too crazy - but since ive only taken it twice maybe my brain is not too altered yet!
maybe i should just work w. xan. for my panic. my OB was NOT into letting me go the benzo route - but i have a huge stash of them that can get me thru - esp. since 1/2 or 3/4 of a .25 works for me.
or maybe i should stick this lex. out. but i feel like sh*t and being SO scared of weight gain - i could just do xanax daily. i dont know!!!!!! i just know i cannot function like this - on this lex- and i have 3 kids to deal with!
i tried to call my doctor but answering machines w/ long messages give me panic and i had to hang up! gosh im a freak.

>Honey, I don't think you are a freak, but I think you suffer from extreme anxiety. You need to do something about it so that you can function. It is hard to tell abt the lex b/c some of what you are describing could be generated by anxiety alone. But of course some people DO just react very strangely to a med.
Only you can decide about the lex, but please don't just stop the lex and hope things will just get better on their own. They almost never do. They just get worse. If you stop the lex, please pursue another option (therapy or meds). Your family needs you to feel better than you do. YOU need you to feel better than you do.
Best,
EE

honey does the xanex work at all???? If so I think you should stick with the lex for a week or two and use the xanex during this time. Lex is so mild once you get used to it and one of the easier ones to get off of...
PS- The only freaks are the people that don't admit they have some of these issues...;-)

> PS- The only freaks are the people that don't admit they have some of these issues...;-)yep - the xanax works some for sure...is lex REALLY one of the easier to get off of? maybe i should go down to 2.5 a day - so 1/4 of a 10 mg. im so sensitive to drugs - my eyes are still dilated - i cant even take cough medicine w/out tripping for two days! also i think this is making my panic worse - i had a hard time picking up dd from school and that does not normally happen. since my panic attack on fri and since then being on xan and now lex - i feel more panicky than ever before.
