Could Oxytocin nasal spray help depression?

Posted by EERRIICC on September 11, 2005, at 0:31:06

Could a couple doses of syntocinon (oxytocin nasal spray) ease depression/anxiety? If so for how long?
Just speculate if you want; I can't find these answers anywhere, but there is tons of indirect evidence. What detrimental effects could it have (I'm a male)?

Thanks, Eric

I know that some SSRIs increase it (Citalopram) and that others decrease it (fluoxetine)

It is referred to as the cuddle hormone.

I believe it could have enormous applications in social phobia.

There was one study done, however that showed pedohpilles had abnormally high levels of oxytocin. And that oxytocin injections into animals caused them to start attending to and nurturing the closes young they could find (even if it was another animal's young !!!)

Powerful substnace.

What's depression anyway? Oxytocin sounds like what I need. Or GHB or something. The bloke who invented GHB defined depression as unsociability, sooo.......

Is there an oxytocin nasal spray?

And the bloke who discovered crack cocaine defined depression as an inability to run a 50k marathon on 5 minautes of sleep.

GHB when it was legal and taken properly was an awesome AD for about 1-2 hrs. every day. Re-dosing hardly had any effect however. It made the things that you theoretically know you are living for during depression (love, hope, beauty permeate and fill your mind)
