Taking Effexor on time

Posted by Pixel on September 11, 2005, at 4:00:50

Yet another thread on Effexor...

I don't know if anyone has written about this before and I apologise if they have.

I take Effexor (and Risperdal) and was wondering if anyone else has noticed that if they are a few hours late taking it then it seems to stop working and depression hits again. Does this make sense - brain's a little frazzled at the moment??

What I'm trying to say is that if I take it a few hours later than exactly 12 hours later (I take it twice a day) then I notice that my depression starts to get much worse. Is this just me/a coincidence or has anyone else experienced this. My PDoc says this doesn't happen and I'd just like to know if this is true???

I don't know if it stops working, but the withdraw hits pretty quickly if I forget a dose.

My son is on Effexor XR 375 mgs so he only has to take it once a day (usually between 9am and 12md). However if he forgets and say it gets to 6pm he is REALLY uncomfortable (all other probs aside) and realises he has forgotton (he is so uncomfortable that he rarely forgets it now!). I know the half-life for Effexor is short. Don't know anything about the plain effexor version.

my guess is that it probably has an even shorter half life (I remember reading posts ages ago and the same thing was happening to someone else).

Bottom line take the effexor as close to the same time each day!

Hope this helps, others on this board will know more (my experience is only observation and listening!)

all the best
