I was on prozac. The anxiety was bad. The doctor put me on cymbalta. The side effects were horrible so I got back on prozac. The depression is fine, but I feel like ocd (anxiety) is creeping back in. What should I do?

well im far from an expert but there are a few options i know of b/c i have severe depressive d/o,ptsd and general/social anxiety. talk w/ ur doc asap but u cld. either switch to effexor which is for depression and anxiety(it works well for me but everyone is different), or see if ur doc wld put u on an anxiety med. such as xanax, ativan, valium,or klonopin(which is what i take). there are many more but thats a few. they can be addictive but i've had no problem w/ that issue. it can take time to find what works best for u so if the prozac is helping the depression, an anxiety med. might be the way to go. Good luck!

here's the deal with all of these meds:
there is something out there somewhere that will help you, but the docs don't know which ones helps who.
it sorta becomes a trial and error process.
but keep the hope, because somewhere there is something that will help you. hang in there.

I also just read the post above. "Does prozac cause anxiety?" Wow! I was wondering the same thing.

Hi,
Sorry i'm no expert....but in the mean time....As you would be able to ascertain from my own posts to others on this forum I have been seeking answers for my own son who has depression and OCD. the two are a hard mix.
I know that when my son is depressed his OCD locks onto the depressed thoughts and then he becomes even more anxious/agitated
When his depression is controlled he is only left with the OCD to try and work through (the word "only" is used very loosely here!!!)once your depression is controlled then it may be that a higher dose of Prozac (eventually - take the increases slowly and give them time for side effects to diminish)will be needed to finally take on the OCD symptoms
OCD is very resistant and I have (through research and questions) ascertained that you need to be on the optimum dose (always higher for OCD) for at least 3 mths before it starts to address the OCD (if the depression remains controlled you are half way there).

that is very true. i had OCD and after a year on 80mg of prozac i was one of few that no longer had OCD as severe and to this day(10 years later), i am still MUCH better than i was. i believe that the behavior therapy and the med. together is what helped me *control* my obsession, especially w/ cleaning.

When I started Cymbalta, I had some side effects that bothered me, but they pretty much all faded away by the end of about two months. If you find the Prozac is too anxiety producing, you could give Cymbalta another go and see if yours do, too. When I say that I was "bothered," by the way, think of poor chemist calling me daily to remind me that I could get through it, that I would never know if it could help if I didn't give it a chance, that nothing would help me if I gave up after a week, etc. Poor guy did more than his share to keep me on it, and without that I couldn't have done it.
A year later, I'm still on it, and it does help. For me, it was just getting past that first adjustment period.
Prozac sends me over the edge -- instead of thinking I may as well be dead, on Prozac it seems that getting dead is a really high priority. {shrug} Everyone is different, and your mileage will vary.
By the way, whoever suggested Effexor might be on to something for you. It can be very good for anxiety.
Hope something in there helps.

Take zyprexa it is the fix all. Small dose would work well.
