I always chopped my klonopin into peiaces because my mood always dictates the strentgh i need,this method has always worked perfect!
Klonopin is my main benzo,but when i do get xanax i do the same.I had prescribed xanax xr,and i dont like it.
I will get reuglar next time,but im curious if im able to still chop these up.I totaly understand any xteneded release would be ruined once u do that,but im not concerned on that.
What i do wanna know is if chopping up a xanax xr tab not only ruins the xr,but also ruins the pill itself.Are the remaing pieaces of the tabs still potent to use as needed?
It would be a total shame to waste these,but so far it seems like the chopped pieaces of the xr are r not resembling regualr xanax,unless its my imagination.

Willyee I used to do the same thing with regular xanax an klonopin. Just bite off a piece. I never took extended release xanax but my daughter-in-law did and she still needed regular xanax with it. And that bad pdoc I had said the same thing. He needed to supplement the longacting with regular cause it doesn't work. Fondly, Phillipa

I'm not a Xanax XR fan. It seems to me like a marketing ploy...when short-acting benzos were all the rage, Xanax was king. Now that long-acting benzos are "in," and original xanax is available as a (very) cheap generic, suddenly an XR version is being churned out. I say...thumbs down. Anyway, when you break an XR caplet, you destroy the "XR", so you're basically left with the IR version of the drug. The problem is...it isn't as simply as taking say, half of a 1mg Klonopin tab, which would obviously be .5mgs. You have fillers and what not to deal with when it comes to XRs, so breaking them up is tricky. That said...since Xanax XR sucks so much, I think you might be better off just chopping it up, and taking bits at a time until you get the relief you need. Just try to explain to your doc that the XR really isn't that great. Alot of docs RX xanax xr b/c xanax is so potent, but can be problematic, what with the hellish withdrawal and all. A good option there would be Ativan, which is available as a (very) cheap generic, lasts about as long as Xanax, *but* doesn't cause as many withdrawal problems. In fact, as benzos go, Ativan (lorazepam) is about as clean as you can get...fewer withdrawal problems, it plays well with other drugs, and its great for problems ranging from panic attacks to behavior control during psychosis or psychotic mania. Thats what im doing now,but as u said i can break a big chunk and get little relieaf which leads me to believe as u stated theres fillers and what not,so it would take more than what a little pieace of regualr xanax would do.
I also agree xanax xr is not impressive in anyway,there is not a anxiety relieaf like regualr xanax,just a drowsy cloudy feeling that sorta hangs in the back ground,i asked for i just sure wont ask again.

The only thing is they get stuck in your teeth! They are a little waxy, I guess this is what causes the XR release. So, the bitterness that lingers is the only negative thing I found. And yes, when I chewed half it was just like taking a regular Xanax, it hit like a train. I also took a half that had been cut for a couple of months and it was fine.

Hi- just wanted to add about ativan- there ARE bad withdrawal problems with Ativan- my personal experience, anyways.
