Has anyone responded well to trazodone as an antidepressant?

I HATE TRAzodone!

I hate the way it makes me feel i hate the way it works.

Supposly 150mg at night is an antideprssant dose. I dont know how long it takes too work.

Heheheh... I took one pill, once, for sleep -- an hour later I managed to wake my husband, terrified, fast awake but virtually paralyzed, and scared out of my wits. I was literally afraid that I was going to die. That's not like me, by the way -- usually, I only worry that I will end up feeling worse from the drugs than from the depression. You know, fairly reasonable stuff. Thinking I might die is something that has only ever happened before with penicillin -- to which I am allergic. I guess it could have been an allergic reaction, but whatever it was was certainly not on my top ten "To Do Again" list...

Guess I can't say I'm an expert on that drug, or a fan...

Just saw that you posted this message... figured since you're helping me I can probably give you some safe advice on this medication.

This is one of the first medications that I tried when I was being treated for insomnia.

So, Trazadone didn't do anything for me. No problems starting up, no problems withdrawing, no relief from either insomnia OR depression.

It was a total "nothing" medication for me. I was also using it by itself... no other medications in the mix.

Damn, I can probably come up with Horror stories that I had to go through with most medications that I've taken... even the ones that I'm still taking today... but that one... I don't remember anything positive or negative about it.

My Therapist eventually moved me onto Clonazepam because she realized that no matter how high she upped the dosage... and it got raised like 3 times.... that it wasn't helping me at all.

Tried trazadone once for sleep and that was it. I've heard it's not a good antidepressant mostly used just for sleep. Fondly, Phillipa

It was great for sleep but it gave me really bad restless legs so I only took it for 3-4 days. That's my only experience with it. No, wait I actually was prescribed it once before back in the 80's but took it only a week or two (because of the restless legs, I think). I didn't improve on it but it was a very short trial.

I've been on it for the last few weeks and it doesn't work very well for me for sleep and certainly no improvement in my depression. And I hate the way it makes me feel in the morning -- I spend the whole morning until noontime feeling like a slow moving rock.

I really don't like Trazadone!

It gave me the worst hangover of any sleep aid I've taken, the hangover lasted until well into the evening after I'd taken it

It also dried out my nasal passages making my Rhinitus much worse

It seemed to have side effects that were worse than TCAs, without the benefits

I've never tried is as an AD, can't imagine what the side effects would be like at a high dose!

Hi Tom,

Some people take up to 600mg/day!

Good question.

I handed a prescription to a man on 600mg - he was definitely awake!
