Paradoxical response to Dexedrine?

Posted by KaraS on August 11, 2005, at 20:23:32

I have only taken 3.75 mg. of it so far but I feel a little bit of tension along with moderate sedation. Is this normal for lower dosages or for when you first start out on this? Did anyone else have this response? If so, did increasing the dosage lead to stimulation rather than sedation?

Thanks.

K

Hi

Dose ranges are 5-60mgs for ADD/HD and for Narcolepsy, but if it's waranted, up to 100mgs.

Cheers

My son takes stimulants for ADD. He complained that some of them made him sleepy.

They do that for me if I am hungry or down on sleep

So you're saying that response will change when I'm in therapeutic range?

Hopefully he's on one now that doesn't sedate him. How can you concentrate at school if you're sleepy?

Hmmmm. Down on sleep I can understand but hungry is surprising. I've been told to take it on an empty stomach so that it's absorbed well. I wonder if I'd have a different response if I took it when I wasn't hungry? I'll have to experiment.

Thanks.

work with your Doc and find the most efficient dosage for control of your condition. 3.75mg is A VERY low dose.

I have read of a study where College students were given either 5mgs of Valium or 5mgs Dexedrine and reported effects consistant with what they were told they were receiving, however this effect changed with higher doses.

Cheers

He hasn't been on meds since summer school let out. He's been on Concerta; no complaints so far. His biggest problem is doing his homework.

I guess you can lead a horse to water but you can't necessarily make him drink...

How is your husband doing with the Effexor withdrawal?

He's on 37.5 mg Effexor and 50 mg Zoloft. His pdoc is lowering the Effexor while raising the Zoloft, but he's doing it slowly. So far, so good, except for a short period of headaches.
