I take ambien to help with sleep. some nights it works for me, but sometimes I notice if i wait too long after I've taken it to go to sleep, then im wide awake, and cannot get to sleep for a long time, and i have a terrible nights sleep after that. Is this common?
I also have to space out the days I use it because I seem to get tolerant on it extremely quickly
(10mg)
thanks

I finally came to the conclusion that I'd better be in bed within 30-45 min. once I'd taken it. If I stayed up much longer I didn't fall asleep for hours.
I did not notice it becoming less effective, however, if I tried to do without it or lower the dose, I would have a sleepless night.

Hmmmm, I think I have had the same experience. Even if I'm in bed, if I'm doing something like updating my schedule or tasks in my PDA or something, I don't tend to fall asleep, and then I have been awake for hours.
Hmmmmm. Guess it's better to take it and just close my eyes.

I think if you wait too long after taking a sleep med your body tends to fight it and it's as if you'd never taken anything at all. Fondly, Phillipa

Hmmmm, I'm the oddball here. Once I take it, if I wait too long, I get positively drunk! I stumble around, and HAVE to get to bed. I haven't had it keep me up yet, but I have found that I can't seem to sleep w/o it now, but I have always had trouble getting to sleep.

just make sure you are in bed and comfortable when it comes on. Then you'll sleep fine, well that's how it worked for me because I had the same problem!!

it is a cool feeling, but once that kicks in, last night i was too late apparently, and my visions get so vivid with my eyes closed, that that alone keeps me wide awake , as if I'm watching a movie

Yep,
You need to be in bed within 30 min of taking Ambien. Also after about 3-4 days you need to take a day or two off. Then it will work well again.
I still sleep if I delay bedtime after taking Ambien, but have a hard time falling asleep.
