I'm on 150mg Effexor daily. I enjoy a couple lite beers occasionally, OK maybe a 6 pk. Usually it doesn't bother me much. Sometimes I get very dizzy and disoriented especially if I drink 12-18 beers. Seriously, does anyone have any information concerning side effects of a very moderate amount of alcohol and effexor. My daughters tell me that it can be fatal. I can live without the beer but I have to have the effexor.

My daughters tell me that it can be fatal. I can live without the beer but I have to have the effexor XR. One other problem is that when I do simple chores such as cutting grass I get very dizzy and short of breath very quickly (without beer). I am 51 and have no history of heart problems. Had stress test recently and no problem was found. I have also tried to quit taking effexor because I felt better. I lasted 3 days. It really helps with anxiety and outbursts. I was really getting angry and saying things to my family and co-workers that I can't believe I said. I'm doing much better with my family but still can't hold a job because I get so angry easily. Maybe I need to increase dosage to 300 mg before I try another job.

Oh well, now I'm talking to myself. I'm a newbie and was trying to edit the first post. That's why I responded to my own post. Any advice about Effexor XR will be appreciated. I'm especially concerned about increasing the dose to 300 mg or is there a combo I need to ask my GP about?

I think all would agree that 12 to l8 beers is a cause for concern. Is your doc aware of your beer consumption? Fondly,Phillipa

I'm sorry I created that perception. I care deeply about my family. I made a joke about a very serious problem. Actually, I rarely drink any alcoholic beverage. When I do I sometimes experience side effects which I believe is related to the Effexor XR. It is tough for me to admit that I have any problems with mental health. Please forgive me for making light of a very serious problem that plagues many of us.

Have you ever considered what your family is going through. It sounds like your daughters are concerned about you, are you concerned about them? I read another message where it sounds like another person is going through the same thing with effexor. It can be deadly, especially with alcohol. There are other medications out there. Talk to your doctor.

It intensifies the effect of the alcohol for me, even in 1 drink.

I experienced much more anger on effexor than I did on celexa, prozac, or zoloft.
I think that maybe celexa or prozac might be a better med to take the edge off the anger.
