Nardil; Worried about weight gain

Posted by Tom Twilight on June 28, 2005, at 11:59:50

I think I'm going to try Nardil for my Social Anxiety and Depresion (assuming I can get it prescribed!)

The thing thats putting me off is the weight gain issue.

Is there anything that can be done to combat Nardil weight gain?

Any drugs or special diets?

Tom,
Nardil is awesome, just look at some of the babbles and see how many people love it. Hopefully you will feel AD benefits and not get weight gain. However, if you do feel a little weight gain coming on, hit that treadmill man! I am on a lot of meds that cause weight gain and I curb it with regular exercise. If my lazy #%*( can do it, so can you!

My pdoc keeps saying Nardil doesn't cause weight gain. Except in that if you are no longer depressed you might feel more like eating. Is he crazy or what?

UGH
That's so common. My G.P told me it wasn't possible to gain more than 5 lbs on ZYPREXA!
He also said the same thing your P.Doc did about eating more when you feel better.
I've heard that quoted by many people.

When I was on Effexor I gained 25 lbs so fast I was astonished. The P.Doc at the hospital told me it wasn't the Effexor, and then asked if I had cream in the coffee I was holding.
I stopped effexor and saw her again 3 months later. She said "You've lost so much weight, how did you it?" "I stopped the Effexor"

What I'm trying to say, is, when it comes to weight gain and medication, it seems very few Dr's have a clue, and they would much more like to believe that the patient is somehow weak.
