How long does it take for Lamictal to kick in?????

Posted by DoYouKnowHim? on June 12, 2005, at 15:56:00

I have been taking Lamictal lowest dose (25 mg) for 10 days because of the threat of a rash. I also take 100 mg of Seroquel. How long does it take for the Lamictal to kick in? And what does it feel like? I have depression/anxiety.

It took me one week at 100mgs to notice an effect. As far as depression, it was the first drug that lifted me out, after 3.5 yrs of depression. As far as anxiety, it didn't really effect it much. It does help control racing thoughts, and granted some anxiety does lift after depression is, especially if they are linked. But it didn't touch my panic attacks.

Okay, does lamictal really help with depression? Better than an SSRI? Fondly, Phillipa

SSRI's never touched depression for me, only made things worse (suspected BPII).
The anti-depressant effect can wear off (is fairly common), and that's typically when u increase the dosage until it comes back. Most pdocs shoot for 200mgs, or play it by ear, and how u feel.
I've been on it for about 1 year.
I've been as high as 200, and as low (now), on 50mgs.
Different dosages for different people, as are most meds.

It didn't help my (unipolar) depression. My pdoc said that she expected me to start feeling it around 100 (but I didn't). Apparently it is supposed to help depression at a fairly low dose. She wanted me to try it before trying some other things (like lithium--also sometimes helpful for TRD) b/c it is fairly low in terms of side-effects.

Best,
EE
