Hi,
I have OCD, major Depression, and GAD. I have been on Lexapro for about two years now. Started out at 20mg. Now I am at 60mg.
I just started (today) taking 80mg (40mg in the morning 40mg at night).
Is this amount of Lexapro dangerous to take. I seem to be tolerating it fine and it does seem to better help my OCD thoughts. But I just don't want to be overdosing myself.
I guess what I am asking is it dangerous to take 80mg of Lexapro. I also take Klonopin and Remeron.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hello. Has this been sanctioned by your doctor?!? I know that pdocs are going above the 15-20mgs recommended by the manufacturer (like up to 40mg or so), but 80mg seems excessive to me.

As my pdoc says "If it ain't broke than why fix it". Check with your doctor and if it works for you maybe he'll say okay. Fondly, Phillipa

Yea my pdoc said that if my current dose of 60mg wasn't doing it for me I could kick it up to 80mg. I just took my first 80mg dose today and I don't feel any side effects as yet.
But I just worry if this high of a dose is safe? I mean I don't want to overdose or anything.

There are two questions here: 1. Is it safe? 2. Is it a good idea?
1. I don't know. All I know is that I have been up to 50. I'm one who usually needs a lot more of a med to make it work.
2. If you need that much to get an effect, maybe you should try an additional augmenting strategy. Adding something new to the mix. I take Lex, plus dexedrine, desipramine, neurontin, and ambien. Not that I feel better yet or anything, but each drug seemed to give the Lex a boost. Talk to your pdoc about all of your options. This just might not be the best strategy. How long have you been on your other meds?

Nothing is safe. If it helps though and doesn't cause side effects, I can't see the problem.Scott
