I am in real need of advice here. I have been on 5mg of Lexapro for one week (will eventually go up to 10mg). Since yesterday I've felt very jittery and anxious (worse than ever). Is this a common side effect that will pass? Really hope so....

Hi there, and welcome to Babble.
It is not uncommon for some people to experience increased anxiety and the jitters when starting an AD, including a SSRI like Lexapro. Usually, this is a start-up side effect which will likely subside as your body adjusts to the medication. I experienced an increase in anxiety for the first few weeks when I went on Paxil a number of years ago, but it did subside and Paxil proved an excellent med for me for anxiety and panic attacks. I am sure Lexapro could be equally effective. If the anxiety is causing you distress and is somewhat debilitating, you might want to ask your pdoc for a small prescription for a benzo (Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin) to take as needed while you adjust to the Lexapro.
Take care, and I hope you have success with the Lexapro.

I was on 5 mg's of Lexapro for about 5 weeks and I never got better, I became much worse.
The only way it helped my anxiety was by thrusting me into the weirdest depressed funk of my life.
But I don't want to scare you.. LOL

Lexapro did upramp my anxiety initially but was well worth the benefits for anxiety control that it offered after a few weeks. Use of a benzo during the first weeks of startup was good for control of initial anxiety SE.
Does not work out for everyone, but Lex has been a good treatment for me.
