Hello There
As most of you are aware I'm having difficulties with Trileptal and pains which appear to be coming from my kidneys/sides of body.
So I have stopped taking it. I am now trying Tegretol but its no way near as effective as Trileptal on my mood and is putting me back into depression.
I guess Topamax will be my last shot. I would like to know if people have had success with this drug - without having the "Dopamax" i.e turing you into the village idiot.
Hvae any people actually found this drug actually helps them with regards to:
Helping anxiety
Helping sleep
Helping you think clearly - is this possble??
Helping as a *standard* mood stabilser should compared with the big 3
Many thanks to those who can help me with this. I know the only way is to try it for myself, i'm getting rather worried as if this doesn't work i'll have to give up on all mood stabilisers and be med free....not a wise option :-( but my only option

Just wondering if you have tried Lamictal yet?
A lot of people find topomax very effective. You have to tritrate it slowly though. It helped me sleep. It did negatively effect my cognitive abilities. I wasn't on it long enough to say whether or not it helped stabilise my mood. I went psychotic from it. :-)
Good luck with it!

Hi Maxine :-)
Whoa sh*t you went psychotic from it?!
Yep i've tried Lamictal, it was a no no, it sent me into a nervious anxious mess! lol
I see why you had to stop it then from being psychotic. Good to hear it helped with sleep though.
Thanks for the input :-)
Kind regards
Nick

My husband took l50mg of trileptal last night to see if it helped with sleep and he still can't wakeup. I'm worried he's so strange. Just keeps noding off. Could a one time trileptal cause this? Fondly, Phillipa

Yes! My daughter and I both take it for Bipolar II, and we are both having good luck with it. I am having better luck with it paired with Zoloft. She is taking Trileptal 75mg. along with Topamax 300mg. You do need to titrate very slowely, because of the side-effects. I would say go up every two weeks, and no faster! I didn't notice any congnative dulliing at all, but she did when the doctor told her to increase TOO quickly. Increasing fast does that, and you back down again until it decreases, and titrate up slowely again. Some people notice weight loss, but we did not. It did level out my moods, and I feel like a different person. When I started reading the side effects, I had a small panic moment. No need for that; it's not a big deal. Just some tingling in the feet, and maybe light headedness at first, but that goes away within the first four days. Give it a try, because it may be the one for you! It changed my life, and could possibly do the same for you. -L
