Weight gain on symbyax

Posted by Rocketgrrl on May 29, 2005, at 0:56:07

Anyone have this problem? I have gained 35 lbs over the last three months since I have been takin symbyax (a mixture of prozac and zyprexa). It has helped my mood, except for making me tired, so I'm nervous to try something else with less weight gain. Any ideas?

Well your post doesn't surprise me as most people who take Zyprexa will gain around 25 pounds. If you are feeling good and can live with weight gain, then maybe just stay on it. What else have you tried?
Why were prescribed this med?

I was prescribed it for manic depression. I don't want to live with it, but I guess if I have no choice...do you have any idea why there is weight gain? My doc doesnt seem to want to give me the details.

Hello. I've been taking Symbyax 6/50 for almost three weeks now. I've gained a couple of pounds, but I'm not sure if it's fat or water retention (both types of gains are potential side effects). Of greater concern to me than the actual gain in weight and waist girth, is the diabetes and cholestorol risks associated (possibly) with the weight gain.

The "problem" is for me, that the Symbyax is working extremely well for my treatment-resistant depression. I'm going to stick with it for now and try to keep an eye on things.
