I've never tried Seoquel, but I do take Buspar and it works pretty good for me. It does tend to make me sleepy and really unmotivated though. I'm paranoid of any meds that may make me gain weight - will Seroquel? Can you take it during the day? Do you use it as a mood stabilizer or just as an add on?

Gee you're lucky buspar worked for your anxiety. Had you taken benzos first? It didn't work for me but i've been on benzos for years so I guess that's why. Fondly, Phillipa

hi trishp

when do you take buspar? my doc says to try it at bedtime and in the morning, but others have told me to take it at least twice during the day like in the morning and around 3pm

do you have any depression that buspar helps with?

---seroquel can make some sleepy and so they take it at bedtime to help with sleep...i also have ocd so it would be used as an add-on

Actually I love Klonopin, but my new Pdoc won't perscribe it because he feels its addictive. So I'm either stuck with adding Buspar to the Trileptal or going to another mood stabilizer.

So far, I've taken 10mg at night and I take 5-10mg sometime during the day if I feel espically anxious.

I'm a big buspar fan, and I don't really like seroquel that much at all. I did seroquel, 100mgs, divided into 3rd--25mgsAM, 25mgs afternoon, 50mgs at bedtime. I had terrible dreams, I felt melancholy, and once I started having a panic attack and crying uncontrollably shortly after my 50mg dose. I started Buspar @ 30mgs/day, 15mgs AM 15mgs late afternoon. Now I take 45mgs, morning, noon, nite. It works very well for me, along with my other stuff (cymbalta, trileptal, vistaril for sleep). For flat-out **PANIC ATTACKS** BuSpar probably won't do the job--it might make them less intense, but a benzo would probably be needed to really get them under **control**.

When did you remark the onset of action of buspirone (days/weeks)? It is said that you have to wait weeks to feel an anti-anxiety effect with buspirone.

hi! After about a week with BuSpar, things got a little bit better. After 3 weeks, I more or less felt the full effects; less anxiety, which meant fewer physical symptoms, so on and so forth. When my dosage of BuSpar was increased, I felt what I guess were the full effects faster, in about 1 week.

time before antipsychotics kick in

Hey! Seroquel, like most antipsychotics, takes a while to "kick in". Usually, calming effects are seen almost immediately with antipsychotics, particularly sedating ones. Problems with agitation and high-level anxiety usually start to respond within a week or two...when used for depression, results may be seen almost immediately in some cases and within a few weeksw in others. The calming effects of anti-psychotics help control mania immediately, and the antipsychotic can usually be withdrawn (assuming its being used just for acute mania, not as a maintenance med) within a month or so. For people with more chronic psychotic conditions, like schizophrenia or schizoaffective, response time varies; usually, a full "trial" of an antipsychotic takes 4-6 weeks, after which response is evaluated and any changes deemed necessary are made.

I once tested the buspar for 6 days (30mg) and it made me even more nervous/agitated. After that I stopped testing.

Is this common? Did you also have this side effects first?

kind regards

sdb
