REM sleep disorder - acting out your dreams

Posted by Michael Bell on May 14, 2005, at 13:14:29

Has anybody else ever had this? I started to taper off of Klonopin after being on Nardil for about a month, and I experienced about a week-long episode of acting out my dreams. The dreams were always about me fighting some kind of weird monsters and I would act out the fight in my sleep and wake myself up with violent moves. Once I got back on Klonopin the episodes stopped.

What scares me is that there's a link between REM sleep disoreder and Parkinson's and there's a strong link between social anxiety disorder and Parkinson's.

Gotta think positive thoughts...

Hi, I went through a similar period of acting out in my dreams. I almost punched my hubby in the face with one swing, but it landed on the pillow next to his head!

I am on Nardil, and I think it might be related to that. I can't remember what dose I was on at the time...I might have just gone from 45 mg to 60 mg. I also know that at the same time, I was dealing with the topic of feeling frozen and helpless when I am threatened. So I assumed I was trying to work out dealing with aggression in my dreams.

But it is a very odd feeling.

I'm not sure about the connection you are making with Parkinsons. I am much more likely to suspect Nardil.

Perhaps it was a withdrawal symptom from clonazepam. Clonazepam can (supposedly) suppress REM sleep disorder, a 'rebound' effect might occur on withdrawal... even in people who don't have REM sleep disorder.

Dreams are also a way to work out the problems you have in life. I can't sleep now even with a benzo. Too much to figure out in my life I guess. Fondly, Phillipa

Hi Michael!

I've been wondering how does Nardil work for you for social phobia/anxiety? Is it pro-social? how much do you take? any side effects?

Take care
