Back Down. Can Topamax help with Depression?

Posted by D minor on May 5, 2005, at 21:30:30

Hey Guys,
I'm back down again. This is at least my second day (perhaps longer) depressed. I guess its too soon to tell whether I'm still rapid cycling or if this is me on a true down swing again.

I've been tappering up on the Topamax. I'm up to 75mg a night now. My pdoc wanted me to go up to 100mg. But each time I go up it is so hard because of side effects. So what I want to know is, if I go up, will it help with the depression? Or will I need to try an AD after all? Maybe Cymbalta will be safe to try now that I'm on a mood stablizer? (it caused a hypomanic reaction in me before). I just hate being depressed!!!

What can I do?

My guess is that you'll probably need something in addition to the Topamax to keep the depression at bay...wish I could tell you what exactly. I can honestly say it did nothing for my depression...I was already on an antidepressant at the time, too.
