English Psychiatrists LOL

Posted by Nickengland on April 20, 2005, at 14:23:33

Had my appointment yesterday with the usual Consultant Psychiatrist to discuss about a change from Tegretol to Trileptal and the possibility of trying Neurontin for anxiety...

Being a so called "Consultant Psychiatrist" you'd think he'd know he's medications??...LOL He had never heard of Oxcarbazepine/Trileptal!

So I had to spell it out to him which he wrote on a piece of paper, he then looked it up in a book to check what its used for and without hessitation prescribed it!.. I was quite amazed at this bearing in mind he'd never used it before, but he didn't seem to care, it was just like asking for a sweet?!

But then when I asked him about the neurontin for anxiety, he refused saying it was new and we know much about its longterm effectiveness blah blah...Which I can understand. Shame though as he doesn't seem to want to give me anything for anxiety.

Anyway english psychiatry, what a joke!...and in the NHS waiting room someone siting there drunk swigging from a bottle of vodka at 11am!...I cant wait to get out of this country! lol

I have been many times with doctors like him here in Mexico.
They don´t even know that the drugs targets certain kind of neurotransmisors.
That dopamine is present in high quantities in schizophernics and may more things.

They just prescribe whatever is "on the fashion of medicines".

First pacient
ok.. let´s see... you have depression.. effexor migth work

Second pacient
ok.. its seems you have depression ... lets try effexor

Third pacient
mmmmm what whe have here is a severe depression
take this free effexor

and to the fourth
and to the fith
and to the sixth
and to all the rest of pacients in his life !!!

Hi!

Only if it's an SSRI or Effexor!
