provigil

Posted by suttles on April 13, 2005, at 7:46:32

Hi,
I am new to the group and would really like to know if anyone who has taken Provigil ever felt like it made them sleepy?
I have had problems with excessive sleepiness for almost 20 years and had a sleep study just called it idiopathic hypersomnlance. Also went with a Chronic Fatigue diagnosis for several years.
My phycharist gave me provigil 200 mg about 3 years go and it would help for a few hours but then after around noon I would have to sleep. He increased it after about a year and then I would usually take half of the second 200 mg and that would be all I needed for the rest of the day. I would only use the second half if needed. My MD had me try a very small dose of T3 thyroid and I felt better on it but after a month I was so sleepy and spacy that it started feeling like the provigil made me feel worse. I quit the t3 cytomel and the sleepiness never got better. I had also taken glutathione atp shots just before this. I read something about atp and sleep but could not understand it.
Now I take a 10 mg adderall and it helps but if I need the provigil later in the day it can go either way help me wake up or make me feel like my head is dead. Please let me know if anyone else has felt this?
I have taken every antidepressant known to man. I also take Neurontin and after all the medications that make me sleepy neurontin helps me stay awake and helps the spacy feeling I get with the sleepyiness. I take a whopping 800mg 8 times a day . I have tried to cut back some on it and take 5 of the 800 mg tabs.
I have discussed these problems with both of my Drs and all I can try to figure out is something about provigil and aspartame and I don't know what it does.
Thanks so much. Please let me hear.

Doesn't taking thyroid medicine when you don't need it, actually kill your thyroid? If so, then that would explain your tiredness. I really have no idea, just have always heard that (from nonmedical people).

I just read the part of T3 Thyroid that you took a little of. Maybe they should check your thyroid now to make sure your thyroid is okay since you've taken that drug. I have no medical knowledge whatsoever, just a thought.

I think some pdocs will give a little thyroid med for a depression to help get out of it. I don't think it would kill the gland but it could suppress it's thyroid production. Anyone know the answer? Fondly,Phillipa

Hi,
Have you had your B12 checked? I'm sure you have since you have suffered for so long.

Neurontin wakes you up? God, that stuff made me feel like I was floating ... it was awful. You are taking a sh*t load of Neurontin!

Maybe SLS or Ed will have some answers for you. Dexedrine makes me sleepy ...

yes I have had b12 checked with a lab that is state of the art in nutrients.
I took b12 shots for a while. I have been checked for seizures and was suspicous. I took some of the other antiseizure drugs but they knocked me out. Neurontin has calmed me and gave me energy. My head often just feels dead. I have taken every antidepressant known to man. Nothing works like neurontin and the provigil was good for a long time. My thyroid was a very low normal. I just had it checked again and not heard.
I have lyme disease and just found out. Some of the lyme groups talk about neurotoxins.
I just don't understand about why provigl changed so sudden last year. It can work but then it can make me feel spacy and very sleepy.
I have done searches and things come up that I don't understand like protein causing ammonia and then sleepiness. Also there is something about provigil and aspartame. Then I ran across it doing something with histamine. I cannot read good my conceratioin is bad and my mind goes blank.
I wish someone else could understand these things.
The glutatione atp shots I found out something about the more atp you have the more sleep you get. I think I have that correct. I may have understood it wrong.
Thanks you so much for answering my post.

I have chronic lymes disease. It is inactive now. I assume you are on an antibiotic for it. This illness will make you extremely tired and exhausted. You need a lot of rest, and a good diet. Have you seen an Infection Control MD? Is it newly aquired lymes? Have you recently been bitten by a deer tick? If it is new it should be relatively easy to eliminate with a drug like doxycycline. Mine was undected for years they think. I don't know about the other meds, but the lymes could just be making you sick. Take care of yourself and I hope you are on an antibiotic. By the way where do you live as they still think lymes is mostly in New England. I'm in NC, but was in Ct til l7yrs ago. Fondly, Phillipa

Is a nurotoxin and has made people fell like they are 'going crazy' magically when they quit it.

Cut all diet drinks and Aspartame out, it overexcites the brain

Check out "Natural Hights" Patrick Holford

Nasty poisonious stuff

Sounds like Lyme disease is a definite factor in your tiredness.

You said that Adderal helps abd that you havev ADD like symptoms. Maybe you should stick to stimulants throughout the day to treat your lack of energy and concentration, instead of Provigil.
