Has anyone taken both of these meds and if so which did they like better. I have been on effexor for a long time and want to try cymbalta.

I took Effexor a few years ago and hated it. I'm currently on Cymbalta and doing much better. Hope this helps

I was on Effexor for about 7 months and was doing pretty well, but I wanted to try Cymbalta because of its claims to have fewer sexual side effects. My pdoc also added clonazepam at the same time I switched. I got depressed again on the Cymbalta and switched back to Effexor and added Wellbutrin as well to help with the sexual side effects. So far, this is the best combo for me.

I never tried Effexor, but Cymbalta works very well for me.

How would you say your experience differed? Please give details -- my doc is recommending Cymbalta!

I had really bad mood swings on effexor along with crying spells. It also made me black out if combines with alcohol. I don't have these problems on cymbalta.
