My doctor thinks i am paranoid but I really think my original diagnosis of GAD is the cause of my anxiety. I barely leave the house anymore and im missing so much university that I dont know if I will pass.
Anyway my doc has me on Ativan every other day Zyprexa and Depakote. I have Bipolar also so i need the Depakote but the Zyprexa is doing nothing for me. And I think i have early signs of TD. I think that I need to be on a benzo long term as when I take it i feel so much releif.
I have read on this board and on websites that Klonopin had mood stabalizing properties? Is this true? If so, wouldnt it be a good choice for me as it would be less likely to make me depressed than other benzo's? I also need something to sleep. At the moment Im taking Xanax to sleep (Zyprexa doesnt even make me tired). Ive tried Ambien but that does nothing for me. Would Klonopin help me sleep?
Thanks everyone. And take care.

Everyone has an opinion on benzos. There is a long discussion further up the Board. But, valium has helped me the most. With sleep and anxiety. I have agoraphobia, but I go out anyway. I am usually in a hurry to get out of a store, etc. But, I can't stay home either. Fondly, Phillipa

I think i might have that too. I think that i have been mis-diagnosed as having paranoia.
My mother is agrophobic too but she wont leave the house for months and so on i usually leave the house every few days but find it hard to do so. My old pdoc who was not that good was the first doc though to give me benzo's and honestly i think they are the only drugs that have ever given me some relief. Thanks for the post and take care :)

Believe me I know how you're suffering. I hope you find some relief. They say psychiatric conditions have an hereditary component. Fondly, Phillipa

First of all - sorry you're feeling so badly. I've been in the same position and took a leave of absence last year because getting out became so difficult for me.
I recently transitioned from Xanax to Klonopin, currently at 1mg that I take at night. I find it helps me sleep, though I'm a bit groggy. What's great, though, is that it has really helped in alleviating my anxiety. Now, over the course of a day, I may get a twinge of it (if that makes sense) but I feel I am functioning much better overall.
I also take Cymbalta and propanolol - both very low dosages. My dx is bipolar2, GAD, and panic attacks.
p.s. I initiated the change from Xanax as I found that it didn't last very long, my tolerance built up very quickly, and the after-effects felt worse than when I began.Good luck.

Don't forget that Klonopin is also an anti-seizure med., which is why it might be better for some.(A lot of mood stabiizers are anti-seizure meds)
