wellbutrin woes

Posted by jessers11581 on April 2, 2005, at 20:21:49

Today was bad. I felt very irritable and was mean to a few people. I had a breakdown while talking on the phone to my mom. I also feel like my thoughts are racing and I can't think straight. Like, I try to have a conversation and end up saying something that doesn't make sense, or is completely stupid. It's like I've lost my wits! And I'm only taking 75 mg.! I really want to give this drug a chance. Although I've had similar problems with it in the past, I never actually kept taking it to see if they would persist. Has anyone found that the drug made them very anxious and dysfunctional for the first month or so and then subsided? Will this go away? I'm supposed to double my dosage next week and I'm scared! But maybe I should just stick with this...I don't know. I'm extremely confused and need some advice.

From casual observations at this board, it seems to me, and it's just my opinion, wellbutrin could be one of those drugs that either works great, and you get a hint of it pretty fast, or it works lousy, and you get a hint of it pretty fast. Every now and then someone does well with it after sticking with it through some rough times.

The effects you are feeling are not uncommon with wellbutrin.

I've been in your shoes too many times. My experiences tell me that if I were in your shoes now, I would not be thinking about increasing the dose, but rather decreasing it. I would cut a pill in half and do just 37.5mg a day, and if that's too much then cut a half in half and try that. Sometimes I think the doctors start us off at doses that are too high, not for everyone, but for a good number of people. And sometimes less is better. People here have experienced nice effects on miniscule doses or doses that are supposedly subtherapeutic.

But my gut feeling says wellbutrin probably isn't going to work out, except maybe in combination with something else that will work in synergy with it and have a more calming nature about it at the same time...like a small dose antipsychotic like zyprexa or seroquel.

But I personally would try a half dose of wellbutrin first and see how that goes.

Just my opinions though. Hope it might be helpful.

yeah, i second all that.
The first month I was on it, I couldn't figure out how in the world any medical establishment thought it would be a good idea to use it as an antidepressant. side effects went away after about a month but then it just got to the point where it was rediculous for me to keep taking it when the only thing it did, if anything, was make me more anxious

In the UK, the medical establishment doesn't think it's a good idea to use it as an antidepressant!!!
