I have been battling painful monthlies as well as depression for some time. It seems that my ob gyn thinks it best to stop the whole process of menstruation for a while, so he started me on a monophasic pill and told me only to take the active pills.
I have been on ortho-cyclen for over 2 months and I am pretty sure that my depression has gotten worse since then. It's always hard to know what makes depression worse - like is it the winter, is it vicodin I have been using for a knee injury or is it indeed the pill.
So I was wondering if there was any info here about what may be a better pill for a depressed person.
My ob-gyn said it is going to be trial and error (terrific - as if I don't hear that enough at the shrink's!!!!!! lol)
But I'd appreciate any help anyone can give.thanks,
Diane

thanks, Scott.
That was the guy's first inclination. I had hoped to get something that my insurance co. pays for, but I bet that won't happen.
I think yasmin will probably be next.
Take care....

Hi, sometimes the best pill is no pill. In other cases some women are put on the pill to help their moods.
It will be trial and error. I know someone who tried my bc became a monster on it.
Have you tried not being on the pill?

I tried 3 types of bc pills and decided I became psycho witchy woman on all bc.When I would come off the pill, my husband would look at me with such love and say, " THERE you are." LOL
My fuse was sooo short on birth control, my breasts ached, and I gained about 8 pounds on it.
It's just not for me (or my husband for that matter, ha) .

I swear I've tried every single bc pill out there including depo. From what I've found, the lower dose bc's are least likely to create worse depression. Personally I like Yasmin.
