Any Lofepramine experiences

Posted by TheOutsider on March 8, 2005, at 7:45:03

Have felt mostly ok during the last few weeks but I'm feeling terrible today.

Unfortunatly my depression is kind of anergic/low energy, and there are virtualy no activating drugs in the UK.

I'm currently taking 150mg of Effexor XL but it doesn't seem to be working.

Has anyone had any experience of Lofepramine, SSRIs and Effexor have not seemed to work for me, were as Clomipramine did seem to work.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling bad.

I think I'm the only babbler who currently takes lofepramine (Gamanil). I take 140mg a day and it does seem to reduce depressive thoughts. It also reduces my fatigue a little.

I took Gamanil after SSRIs, Efexor and moclobemide didn't help my depression. I was initially prescribed it in hospital and it did seem to help.

Lofepramine isn't marketed in the US so you don't hear much about it on babble. In the body, lofepramine is converted to desipramine, a drug which is used in the US. We don't have desipramine in the UK. You can search for experiences with desipramine in the p-babble archives.

I would generally recommend lofepramine for depression but it's not very effective for anxiety. I used to take it with citalopram (Cipramil, Celexa) which helped my anxiety.

I don't have many side effects from lofep, just sweating really. I don't have any anticholinergic side effects like I did with other TCAs. If you could tolerate clomipramine I'd imagine that you'd be fine with lofepramine. It has fewer side effects than most TCAs.

Advanatges of lofep.....
Rarely causes sexual side effects... also it doesn't 'numb' the emotions and turn people into apathetic zombies!

Best of luck,
Ed.
