My Psych is switching me from Effexor XR 225 mg & Topamax 300 mg combo (for treatment resistant unipolar major depression) to Cymbalta & Topamax combo. (Bummer because for 5 years the combo was *awesome* and suddenly I started having a few sx) I am down to 37.5 mg Effexor XR and the only problem/side effect is that I am getting depressed. Has anyone started Cymbalta at the same time they were tapering off Effexor XR. I asked by DR and he said "I don't know." UGGGHHH ;-(

FYI to everyone: I decided to just stop the Effexor XR 37.5 mg and just start the Cymbalta since the Effexor is suppose to get out of the system fast anyway. So far so good on Cymbalta. I don't know why I didn't think just to switch when I was that low on Effexor anyway.

I thought Effexor had a long half-life? It doesn't really matter if you are doing okay. Fondly, phillipa

Hi P!
>I thought Effexor had a long half-life?
No, it has a very short half-life, which partly explains why it is often difficult to withdraw.
