INCREASING 15MG TO 30MG REMERON - WEIGHT LOSS??!

Posted by pretty_paints on February 27, 2005, at 3:11:10

Hidihi guys,

I just quit Seroquel and was terrified of loosing the lovely weight I had put on (I was previously Mrs Stick Insect).

I lost a few pounds, but not much more. Which leads me to think it is the Remeron/Mirtazapine which is putting on the weight.

Now my doc is talking about increasing it to 30mg (from 15mg).

Noooo. I have heard that the higher you go, the less it stimulates your appetitie, so I would end up loosing weight.

I just wondered if there was anyone out there who could give me some realisitic info on the weight change. How much weight did you loose/gain with the change? How quickly did this happen? Or did you not notice any change?

Thanks a lot!! :-)

Katie; I'm also on l5mg of remeron and have no wt gain. I have heard from other Posters that the higher the dose, the more likely you are to gain wt. How's the Ambilify working for you? Miss your Posts. Fondly, Phillipa

I think it has several factors -- your baseline metabolism, the action of Remeron itself, and the willpower to padlock the refrigerator. No joke on the last one, I'm afraid.. at least for myself.

I was on Remeron for oh, the better part of a year at least and I would say I gained more than 80 lbs, give or take. Increased dosage, while helping my symptoms, did not lead to decreased weight gain. Its an unfortunate phenomenon with Remeron, because for some its a really good antidepressant. It just potentiates some major weight gain.

Having said this... if it works for you, just be aware of the above... mind your portions, judiciously weigh yourself every so often and balance the risks. For major depression, it can still be a good agent.

Hi,

higher dose of remeron will result in increased appetite and weight, this statement is not only based on my very long history of remeron but also on several relatives.

Good luck,
Mattias
