Benzo's and getting a job

Posted by leo33 on March 1, 2005, at 17:10:22

I have a question for those taking benzo's and getting a job. Today so many employers drug test and since benzo's come up on drug tests, how do you explain it or are you often denied jobs because of it.

I guess my suggestion would be to show them you have a prescription for it. If it's a prescribed medication, surely they can't hold that against you.

No they won't. Even when I was working as an RN in a hospital they drug tested. You merely had to tell them what meds you were on and what dose. I never had a problem. I think they're really looking for illegal drugs etc. Fondly, Phillipa

This vile practise of drug testing makes me so mad. It denies people their right to privacy and is used to kick people while they are down. Thank God that this abhorrent practice is not yet common in the UK.

Personally, I would refuse to submit a sample under any circumstances, even though they would not find anything amiss. It is none of your employers business what medication you are on.

Ed.

If you don't submit, no job. When you get to know people, you find out that about a half of them are on some sort of psychiatric medicine. Not just those that work in psych, but all over the hospital. Fondly Phillipa O

Thanks for the input, it is an interesting subject and one which I have not noticed on the board yet. I will take your advice. Hopefully, I can find another med that works since I do have worries of addiction and they are so difficult to prescribe in the U.S.
