At night 50mg
It makes me slightly drowsy, but i had severe insomnia about a week ago and without "actual" sleep for 2 days, i would "lightly" doze off at maybe 3:00am in the morning for about 3-2 hours but i still was aware I was awake, so i was still in stage I sleep.
I've heard Trazdone is also an AD, but how effective?
Whats is mechanism of action?
Thanks for anything

It seems to be prescribed much more for sleep, at 50 mg. or so. If used as an antidepressant, people use a higher dose (starting with an initial 150mg). It acts to raise serotonin levels, at least in part. I couldn't tell you about efficacy, I assume the drowsiness is quite a minus.
I've taken it for sleep too. It does knock me out, though I feel hungover in the morning. But worth it if I am having a spell of insomnia.

Although it was originally marketed as an antidepressant, I think it is mainly used as a sleep aid now because it can help sleep and doesn't have some of the problems that benzodiazapenes have. I think that it might antagonize 5-HT2C receptors (somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that), and if it does do that, then you will get some of the benefits of increased serotonin WITHOUT the apathy and amotivational syndromes caused by SSRI's.

Hi:
Trazodone is an older form of A.D., but mostly using for 'sleep' aid. However, in my case, ... having started out on 50 mg. before the bed, it was a 'miracle' drug in terms of 'sleep well,' however as time went by, I started having some dreams which interprets my 'sound' sleep. Even after seven to eight months, I still have this problem, but it might originate from other meds. such as a potent med., Zyprexa 5 mg., not from the Trazodone. For me, Trazodone has both efficacy, A.D. and 'sleep-aid' along with Anxiety brought on by Bp depression. However, if you'd like to get a good A.D. efficacy from the Trazodone, you need to take at least 150 mg. My pdoc. initially rx'ed the 300 mg. Traz., but at this 'mass' dosage, I migh nevera be able to wake up next day. So, I went on my own which my pdoc. accepted. Since then, I've settled down at the 150 mg. - 250 mg.(according my daily moods/acitivies) in conjuction with Bupropion ER 300 mg. This combo. is, for me, a 'life-saver' on my Bp depression, not perfect, but at satisfactory range.
Lastly, one thing you may need to do, ... to 'drink a lot of water' or any liquid, if you get 'dry mouth,' and other S.E.s, from the Trazodone.
H.G.

Trazodone works very well for sleep. It's better than Tylenol PM or Benadryl or benzos because it doesn't collapse your sleep architecture--it even helps you reach the deeper stages of sleep. It goes well with SSRIs, which can disrupt your sleep architecture. When I started it, I was absolutely amazed by how much better I felt the following day.
I take 50 or 100 mg every night, depending on how wide awake I am when it's time to sleep. When I first started, I had dry mouth in the mornings, but that went away with time.

I have antidepressant effects with 50mg trazodone, it does not make me sleepy. But I have the strongest pro sexual effect compared to remeron and buspar. Unfortunately my thougts are not that clearly with that drug (thougts coming and going). I could never have a dosage of 150mg. I think this would knock me out completely.
