i have been on Paxil Cr for almost 3 weeks now. The last few days i have increased from 25 mgs to 37.5 mgs. Since i have increased, i have been really anxious and feeling keyed up. Is this a side effect and will it go away. If it doesnt go away ima have to get off it. I take it for anxiety and it is causing me even more anxiety.

hey! This sometimes happens with antidepressants...the theory I've heard is this: SSRIs and many other antidepressants boost serotonin. This is usually a good thing. However, these drugs aren't as targeted or "clean" as one might think. What CAN happen is a bit too much serotonin at certain receptor sites, leading to agitation and anxiety. Again, this is just the most plausible theory I've heard...I think its simple and elegant, so I buy it. Anyway, you have some choices: lower your dose, discontinue and try something new, OR add something...like BuSpar, which is often used specifically for this kind of problem. Good luck!
