Stopping Klonopin--Withdrawal?

Posted by Dkscully on February 13, 2005, at 18:07:05

I started taking 1 mg of klonopin before bed to help with sleep, but it never seemed to keep me asleep for more than 6 hours, so after about a month, I was prescribed ambien instead (but told to go off the klonopin slowly).

I worked down to 1/8 of a klonopin tablet, then stopped completely a couple days ago. Now, I feel weird. Kinda brain-zappy, like effexor withdrawal... I don't know if this is possibly a withdrawal symptom or not... Would that be possible, given how short of an amount of time I was on it, and how i weaned off? I also feel more anxious than usual, but that could also be a result of my Wellbutrin.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Without knowing how long you have been on wellbutrin or how long it took to taper down to 1/8 klonopin I would guess klonopin. In 1999 I had to taper klonopin due to a drug test for work and I had the same feelings. Needless to say after the test I tried another low dose long-acting benzo and felt quick relief. JN

It may be a combination of both. Wellbutrin is stimulating. Without the klonopin, maybe your anxiety is worse? I had the same reaction when I went off l0mg paxil, even with xanax. Fondly, Phillipa

It could be the Klonopin. I've been on and off Klonopin for years (taking 0.25 mg x 2 right now).
Try 1/16 of a 1 mg Klonopin tablet for a while. Here's how I do it: crush the 1/8 tablet to a powder - then, lick your finger and pick up half of the powder. You really can't easily cut a tablet into 16 equal pieces. Don't laugh - it works.

Thanks everyone! Any idea how long this will last if I tough it out? How long should I be licking the powder off my finger? :)

thanks!
