Ive asked similar questions about this over the past few weeks but didnt get many responses, but I dont think I asked this specific question, so I apologize for being redundant if I am. What I want to know is how long do people find dexedrine spansules REALLY last. Ive read so many conflicting things so Id like a response from people whove actually taken it. The reason I ask about spansules is Im pretty sure my doc wouldnt do immediate release for me. Also, if you want, Id like to know if you found them pro-social and if they produced less anxiety than adderall (if youve taken that).
Thanks,
matt

I get about six good hours on the spansules..sometime 7 or 8 on a good day.
I find Dex to be pro-social in the sense that I am calmer. I guess it lowers anxiety for me and this helps socially.
What dosage are you on? I'm on 45-55 and this works well. 30-40 mgs was spotty and just didn;t cut it for me most days. The increase made a world of difference for me.
Peace,
Kaye

Matt,
I recently switched from Adderall XR 50 mgs (30 in a.m., 20 at noon) to Dexedrine Spansules 60 mgs. (30 in a.m., 30 at noon) and I'm having a hard time figuring out the duration period.
I took the Adderall for about 3 years, starting out at 10 and finally reaching 50 mgs in the last year. I found the Adderall much more energizing, physically, but was starting to worry a bit about the cardio effects, so I asked to switch to Dex. For some reason my doc let me go from 40 mgs. to 60 when I complained of it not being as effective as Adderall. I think the Dex does work in that I feel motivated and clear headed, but I don't have the physical energy that I did on Adderall.
I think the Dex is just cleaner (or I just believe what I read/hear) and therefore less harmful to take for a long period of time at a pretty high dose. I also added desipramine at the same time (50 mgs.) and take 1.5 mgs of klonopin at night and sometimes .5 during the day. I'm not sure if the desipramine is causing more anxiety or not, or if I'd be better off with plain old prozac, which worked great for me the first time I took it.
Anyway, not sure if I answered your question, but the Dex probably lasts about 5 -6 hours, but I find taking the second dose 3 hours after the first potentiates it and doesn't keep me awake, which can happen if I take it too late in the afternoon.
Oh yeah, the dex probably isn't as pro-social for me as the Adderall was, but it's still definitely better than nothing. I haven't really felt good for the past month or so (had the flu, etc.) so I'm not sure what I can attribute to the change in meds and what is just normal.

Right now Im on 20mg of adderall XR. It doesnt seem to be helping with anything much, so I think I need a higher dose. When it peaks though I feel kind of nervous/jittery for about an hour, which is why Im asking about dexedrine, as Im thinking it might be the levo isomers in adderall that are causing this. Im also on 15mg of zyprexa and 4mg of klonopin. Thank you both for your responses.

I'm on 10mg dexedrine ER in afternoon as the 72mg Concerta wears off. I think the ER is too extebded for me as my sleep is impacted. Definiteley feels better than aderall xr but still has a BP effect.

hi hi-- is the conversion from adderall to dexedrine one for one? what about from adderall or dexedrine to ritalin? i've never been on dexxedrine, but i wanted to try it. my pdoc said that it's no different than adderall and that adderall is better. i think i heared that 1mg of adderall = 2 of ritalin, so i went from 30-40 xr of adderall to 27 x 3 of concerta.
is dexedrine more powerful? what about appetite? and shakiness?
would love to know... thanks!

I read this evening that Adderall is .5 to 1 mg per kg of body weight, and that Ritalin is 1 to 2 mg per kg of body weight. I weigh 110 pounds, so that means I weigh 50 kg, and my daily dose of Adderall should be no more than 50 mg. I think 2 mg of Ritalin per kg of body weight seems a little high, though, so who knows....This conversion may be wrong. I got it somewhere through the Chadd.org website

It's weird - for some reason adderall seems to leave e feeling agitated in a way that dexedrine doesn't.
I think that response to dose is very individual for these meds.
This is the end of the thread.
