Cymbalta withdrawal?

Posted by crazypumpkin on January 13, 2005, at 17:21:53

evening all.
i'm wondering if what i've been feeling lately is a result of cymbalta withdrawal.
i wasn't on cymbalta for all that long. maybe 2 1/2 months. but due to massive night sweats that were severely disrupting my sleep, my doctor and i agreed to knock down my dosage from 60mg to 30mg. do the 30mg for a week and then stop taking the med altogether. antidepressants were supposed to be a short term boost to help me, so i wasn't too concerned about not being on anything any more.

going down to 30 didn't do much. but within a few days of stopping the cymbalta, the night sweats got better. but i'm still getting them, and i've been off of cymbalta for a week now.
i'm also feeling 'off'. i only have one other instance in my life to relate this to, and that was my attempt at taking wellbutrin (which made me very manic). i don't feel manic right now, but i do feel the shakiness of it and the weird loopiness in my head that i remember having with the wellbutrin. could this be me still withdrawing from the cymbalta? how long does withdrawal from cymbalta take? can i expect my night sweats to fully stop sometime soon?

thanks for any help anyone can give me.

I haven't read much about Cymbalta withdrawal on this board. I'm thinking that it's probably not that bad or that long-lasting or we'd be seeing a lot more posts about it by now. Have you done a search of all of the archives here? It's probably too difficult to draw any definite conclusions from others' experiences anyway since people react so differently to various medications. If you have read any of the Effexor withdrawal posts, you'd see that there's such a huge difference in the degree and length of symptoms. Part of the difference is in how people have been on the drug and how quickly they decreased their dosages.

Wish I could help more. Hang in there.

Kara

actually, that does help. and i realize that everyone does react differently. its just that i haven't had much experience with antidepressants, and i wasn't sure if i was experiencing withdrawl, or if i really did need to go to the doctor. since i'm feeling significatly better (not 100% yet) i'm figuring it was withdrawals.

Glad to hear that you're doing so much better.
