Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has been on meds for a long period of time. I have swithced off and on for the past five years.
I take 60mg of Lexapro, 30mg of Remeron, 2mg of Klonopin, and 1,500 mg of Trileptal for OCD, Depression, and BP 2.
I sometimes get concerned about taking so much medication especially when they tell me it will problably be for the rest of my life.
So, how long have you been on your meds?
Also would like to hear peoples opinions about Trileptal. How it makes you feel and stuff?
Thanks,
BRC

Hello. I have been on meds for 20 years and I am 35 years old. I am bipolar. Trileptal is the only mood stabiliser I have NOT had a reaction to. It can make people trip sometimes - effect your coordination- but that went away for me after taking it for a month. It can also lower your sodium level so make sure you have some salt in your diet. A low sodium level can make your heart go wonky.
When I am manic or hypomanic it's not a happy occasion. It's usually irritability and anger and trileptal has helped so much with that aspect. I had no weight gain or loss from it. I would be a mess without it.

Hi,
You may recall from my previous posts that I've been taking MAOI Parnate for 20 years. I'm now 55. Had first major-depressive episode in 1984, after going through 15 years prior to that with recurring severe anxiety. I've tried 3 other ADs and it appears that Parnate is the only viable one for my depression. I accept the fact that I'll have to stay on it for the rest of my life. Every time I've tried going off, that godawful demon of depression returns to torment me sooner or later.

Hi cubbybear, it's nice to find someone close to my age on here. I wish other's would share this info as it helps to understand. I can't get the AD's to work. My primary DX was PTSD,
Gad, Major depression. I've always had the best results with benzos. Could tell me what other AD's you tried? I've never had a pdoc suggest an MAOI, but they seem to be popular on the Board. All the docs want to Rx are the newest ones. You are so lucky you have one that works. Phillipa

Since my major depression first flared up in '84, before the SSRIs were around, my pdoc opted then to try MAOI Parnate rather than a trycyclic AD. I moved to Thailand in '97 and have to return to the U.S. every year to get a year's supply. Back in 2001, I thought I'd try one of the newer ADs to see how I'd do with it. So I started with Remeron and it pooped out after a while. Then I tried Zoloft and didn't like it because of its effect on libido and failure to prevent anxiety. Then I tried moclobemide (Aurorix), which is not available in the U.S. This stuff actually made my depression worse. So the answer to this hard-learned lesson was that I should have stuck with the Parnate.
This is the end of the thread.
